Are the courses included or charged separately?
Every course in the library is included free of charge in all tiers, including the full RoSPA-accredited UK compliance pack. There is no per-course fee and no separate content subscription. New courses are produced in-house every week and added to the library automatically at no extra cost.
Which compliance courses are RoSPA accredited?
Nine courses carry RoSPA accreditation, the UK body accrediting the library:
- COSHH for Restaurants
- Fire Safety for Restaurants
- Food Allergen Awareness for Restaurants
- Health and Safety for Restaurants
- Food Safety for Restaurants Level 2
- Food Safety Level 3 UK
- Health and Safety Level 3 UK
- Fire Warden UK
- HACCP for Managers UK
All nine are included free in every tier rather than sold as an add-on.
What course categories are available?
The library covers eight categories:
- Service: selling technique, handling complaints, body language, crockery and glassware handling, hostess training, phone etiquette
- Culinary: knives, cuts of meat, mother sauces, plating, allergies and special requests, cost control and waste reduction
- Beverage: wine, spirits, beer, champagne, sake, barista training, mixology, shisha, responsible service of alcohol
- Compliance: UK-specific, UAE-specific and general courses, including the RoSPA-accredited pack
- Management: performance appraisals, shift briefings, delegation, conflict resolution, feedback skills, menu engineering
- Employee wellbeing: mental health, stress management, preventing harassment, equality and diversity, disability awareness
- Glossaries: front of house, back of house, bar, barista, and Italian, French and Japanese cuisine
- Cigar training
New courses are added weekly.
Do the courses cover UK compliance requirements?
Yes. The RoSPA-accredited pack covers the core statutory training most UK restaurant operators need, at both staff and manager level, and the library also carries UK-relevant compliance courses beyond the accredited pack, including First Aid Awareness UK, GDPR, Manual Handling, Working at Height, Lone Worker, Counter-terrorism Awareness and Martyn’s Law. Every course issues a certificate on completion, and completion records sit on each employee’s profile, which is what an operator needs when an environmental health officer or auditor asks for proof. Pocket Trainer warrants that its accredited content is professionally prepared and holds the accreditation claimed, but not compliance outcomes, which depend on how the training is applied, local law and how the operation runs.
Can we edit the built-in courses or add our own?
Pocket Trainer’s own library courses cannot be edited directly, because they are accredited and shared across every client, but customisation is available on request. That covers small wording or process changes to match how your operation runs, or a fully rebranded version carrying your own logo, colours and fonts. Building your own courses is unrestricted: admins create, edit and delete their own course content in real time, using material they upload, type in or link from the document store. The interface is built for non-technical managers, which is the point, because most hospitality operators have good material and no way to get it in front of staff.
How are courses assigned to staff?
Go to Learning, then the Learning Library, select the course, choose “Assign this course to my team”, then select departments or individuals. Each assignment can be set as mandatory or optional, with a due date for completion. A manager can be named to receive overdue notifications, which arrive with the list of staff who have not completed. Staff receive a notification when a course is assigned to them.
Do staff get certificates?
Yes. Certification is automatic on course completion, and printable certificates are issued for live training sessions attended through the training calendar. A certificate shows the staff member’s name, the training or course name, the date and the restaurant name. Certificates are stored on the individual’s employee profile alongside their attendance record and course history, which is what an operator needs when an auditor asks for proof that training happened. Certificates are the only thing a user can export or share from the platform, since all other content is locked down with downloads and screenshots blocked.
How do quizzes work?
Every Pocket Trainer course carries a short quiz at the end of each chapter plus a final quiz, with the passing rate and number of attempts fixed as part of the course design. Chapter quizzes show the correct answer immediately, which is deliberate: staff learn as they go and arrive at the final quiz prepared, rather than only being told at the end how many they got wrong. Correction and scoring are automatic, and a “Check my answers” step runs after the final quiz. Running out of attempts means retaking the course, and exiting a course midway loses progress and counts as an attempt. Managers see completions and scores live, along with a leaderboard. Courses a client builds themselves work the same way, except the admin sets the passing rate and attempt limit.
How often is the library updated?
New courses are produced weekly by an in-house team of content writers, graphic designers and video editors. The classic cocktail library is being expanded with short-form video. Existing courses are updated as standards and regulations change, and updates reach every client automatically with no additional charge.
Can courses be delivered in languages other than English?
Yes. The platform interface is available in Arabic, Spanish, Italian, French, Turkish and Hindi, and content can be delivered in any language your team works in. The built-in library is written in English, and any course can be produced in additional languages on request at a 70 per cent discount against the original course price. This is the usual route for groups running mixed-language teams across the GCC and Europe, where a compliance course only counts if the person taking it understood it.
